The Nintendo Entertainment System is a third-generation home video game console created by Nintendo. It was originally released in America on October 18, 1985, and is the overseas equivalent of Japan's Family Computer (or Famicom for short), which released two years prior, on July 15, 1983. The first four Dragon Quest series titles were released for both iterations of the game console. However, all four games were not released in Europe and Australia.

In the early 1990s, the Nintendo Entertainment System was succeeded by the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. None of its Dragon Quest titles were released in North America, unlike the Nintendo Entertainment System, and therefore remained exclusive to the system's Japanese counterpart, the Super Famicom.

Games

In North America, the first four Dragon Quest games had the Dragon Warrior branding, and were released late into the console's lifespan. They were first released for the Family Computer, as is the case for several games developed in Japan in general.
