The Super Famicom (titled Super Nintendo Entertainment System outside of Japan) is a 16-bit home console manufactured and created by Nintendo. It is the successor of the Family Computer (known as Nintendo Entertainment System outside of Japan) It was released in 1990 in Japan, then in 1991 in North America, and in 1992 in Europe and Australia. Five Dragon Quest games, one of which is a spinoff starring Torneko, have been released for the Super Famicom, although none were released overseas for the Super Nintendo.


Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride, the fifth installment of the main series, is the first Dragon Quest game for the Super Famicom. It was released on September 27, 1992.

Torneko no Daibōken: Fushigi no Dungeon, a spinoff title starring Torneko and the first Mystery Dungeon title overall, was the second Dragon Quest-related game for the system. It was released on September 18, 1993.

The third release is Dragon Quest I + II, which includes a remake of both Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line, and it was released on December 18, 1993, exactly three months after Torneko no Daibōken: Fushigi no Dungeon.

Two years later, on December 9, 1995, the sixth Dragon Quest series title was released, Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation.

Lastly, a remake of Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation was released for the Super Famicom a year later, on December 6, 1996.
